Academic Pentathlon Team

Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School proudly participates in the annual Orange County Academic Pentathlon sponsored by the Orange County Department of Education.

The Academic Pentathlon prepares students for success in college and careers by building 21st-Century skills in communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and character.

The Academic Pentathlon is an exciting five-event competition for grades six, seven, and eight. Each year, a new theme is selected and shaped the entire course of studies for the whole competition.

Under the guidance of a faculty advisor and parents volunteering as coaches, teams of students prepare for competition in five subject areas:

  • Fine Arts (art and music)
  • Literature (including essay analysis),
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Science

The program encourages and rewards academic excellence among learners of all ability levels emphasizing cooperation and teamwork to maximize the fulfillment of individual and team goals. Each grade level team consists of nine students from all levels of academic achievement.

Each grade level also competes in an exciting Super Quiz relay, a team event where parents, faculty, and classmates cheer for their teams from the sidelines, championing academics much like the environment of a sporting event. The competition allows for students to experience success and awards participants both individually and as a Super Quiz team.

We encourage all of our 6th-8th grades learners to participate. This academic competition is not just for students who perform above grade level regarding their academics. It is intended to allow all levels of students to enrich their learning and gain motivation to achieve their goals. An Academic Pentathlon meeting will take place for interested parents and students at the start of the school year that will explain all of the details and requirements.
